The Story Behind Sand Rider
The Sand Rider was created by Bill Fertig, a former police officer and lifelong beachgoer.
After a motorcycle accident left him living with paraplegia, Bill discovered that most beach wheelchairs were heavy, difficult to push in sand, uncomfortable, and impossible to transport in a car. Trips to the beach often became more frustrating than enjoyable.
So he set out to design something better.
The result was the Sand Rider — a lightweight portable beach wheelchair that restores independence and makes beach access practical again.
